WarzoneI'm caught in a warzone.
But instead of bombs and bullets,
Venomous words flit through the air.
They wound without distinction
And tear into the flesh of emotions,
With nary a thought to the damage they will deal,
The wounds that might not heal.
Why do you battle so?
Your quarrel hurts not only your intended target
But also yourself, and the bystanders
And bystanders there are many
Two, children on the verge of adulthood
Unsure of who they are and what they feel
Only knowing the war you wage
The tense silence of ceasefire is only temporary,
Exploding into verbal violence
Only minutes after the fighting stops.
Then you're back at each others throats
Dragging the onlookers into the conflict
Without consulting or stopping to think
"Do they want this?"
I'm caught in a warzone
Where the fighting is done
Using words and veiled threats,
Where the innocent are dragged
Through the mud and the blood,
And where there is no escape
From the endless screams.
